The Junction Mixed-Use Project on Exhibition

A $45.4 million shop-top housing proposal at The Junction is now on exhibition, with plans for a seven-storey mixed-use building at the corner of Union and Kenrick streets.

The State Significant Development application proposes 38 apartments, including two affordable housing dwellings to be managed for 15 years. The scheme also includes retail and commercial premises at lower levels.

The development would include two basement levels for car and bicycle parking, along with landscaping, civil infrastructure works, and utility and service upgrades.

The 2,195 square metre site is zoned E1 Local Centre. The application is linked to a concurrent rezoning proposal seeking to amend the Newcastle LEP, increasing the maximum building height from 14 metres to 30 metres and the FSR from 2:1 to 3.5:1.

The application is lodged by The Junction Development Company Pty Ltd and is expected to support 210 construction jobs and 110 operational jobs.
